- n inia A genus of delphinoid odontocete cetaceans, type of the family Iniidæ. It contains the Amazonian dolphin, I. geoffrensis or I. boliviensis, about 8 feet long, with the dorsal fin a mere ridge, a long cylindrical snout, the jaws armed with from 104 to 132 teeth, the vertebræ about 40, the ribs 13, and the sternum consisting of a single piece.
